We Want Our TV on Demand

by Brian Ratzker on February 19, 2009

The latest saga in old media’s reluctance to change their business model has struck again with Hulu being forced to withhold their content from Boxee. Who cares if it makes it easier for your fans to watch shows without turning on their cable box, they are still your fans and you should make them happy. The media companies need to finally realize that all media will be available on demand and they need to come to this realization as quickly as possible. Cable companies won’t be able to rely on revenue from their cable lineups anymore as well. This whole industry needs to quickly support the concept of users wanting to watch their movies and TV shows whenever they want to. Netflix is kicking butt because they are adapting faster then most companies. Netflix is trying to make their service available from everywhere because they know that the Internet and Television will merge soon and they want to be in front of everyone wherever these mergers are beginning to happen. Media companies need to wake up now. We will eventually be able to go to a website and watch whatever we want whenever we want. If they want to control the revenue models from this eventuality, they need to accept this right now and start making changes.
